His Peaceable Kingdom - Isaiah 11:6 / Hand-Signed and Numbered Limited Edition / 24 x 18 unframed
Painting “His Peaceable Kingdom” has been an extraordinary labor of love. Thus far, this painting is not only the largest, but has been the most time consuming of all my projects in pastel. I’ve done some acrylic murals in years past, but this painting was in a whole new league.
I began by purchasing the substrate, which is a velour paper mounted on archival board. Then I studied the verse, Isaiah 11:6 – “The wolf will live with the lamb; the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child …” NIV. I tried to imagine how each animal and the little girl would or should be positioned. Although I looked at a few older paintings of the topic, I found there really wasn’t much out there. My composition alone, took over a month to draw. Next was the arduous task of finding the actual characters I would paint, without violating any copyright laws :-)! I am blessed to have many photographers, working all over the globe supplying me with images of animals, birds and exotic wildlife.
I started my process in Photoshop, setting all the characters in their positions, until I was completely satisfied that the composition was sound and strong and BELIEVEABLE! Would the viewer’s eye bounce all over or would it glide through the painting, taking in each character? Next, I transferred the illustration onto my substrate. You cannot sketch on velour. The paper is very delicate and can “scar” easily. I have to work out all the kinks in the drawing beforehand and then trace it down onto the velour for a flawless map of my future painting.
I began with the background and do you know what? I hated it! I worked, and worked, and worked it to death until I decided it was time to scrap the painting. Thankfully, I bought TWO boards! I promptly started on the next. It went better the second time. The whole process, from start to finish took nearly four months. I can’t believe I’m finished! Soon, I will have the painting professionally photographed in preparation for printing Giclée reproductions and posters.
I’m so grateful to have so many wonderful friends with which to share my work. I read your comments everyday – every one of them. Many times I’ve read your comments AND your name and I pray for you. I tell you this because I like to know that someone is lifting me up in prayer. I count it an honor to depict a scene, straight out of The Word of God. After all, He is The Master Creator and we are created in His image. Thank you for sharing in the joy of creating with me.
Giclées are regarded by those in the fine art field as the highest quality reproduction of original, archival artwork available today. Giclée, (pronounced Gee’clay) is a French term meaning “to spray” which describes the process of how a Giclée is made. High-end ink jet printing equipment and archival quality ultra chrom K3 inks are used to produce your Giclée print giving it amazing color, fidelity, gloss level and scratch resistance. Glamour II Veneer canvas varnish is water-based and environmentally safe. In addition, a clear coat of varnish has been applied to provide UV protection and additional protection against scratches or mars. The Giclée is printed on Sommerset watercolor 180-museum quality rag paper. This paper respects the ISO 9706 government standards and is distributed by Canson. The Giclée comes in a limited edition. In other words, if there are three hundred in the edition, after the 300th Giclée is sold, there are no more; making your piece of artwork valuable, because it’s no longer available. Therefore, the Giclée is perfect for art collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Each Giclée comes with a certificate of authenticity, and his hand-signed and numbered by the Artist.
